Lucas is an Australian leader in long distance gas pipelines. We have also built significant water, wastewater and slurry pipelines.

Major projects include:
- The $500 million Eastern Pipeline Alliance on the Western Corridor Recycled Water Project, fast-tracking 120km of pipeline in built-up urban areas with numerous complex crossings of major rivers, motorways and rail lines. The project includes large pump stations, reservoirs and storage tanks, micro tunnels and HDD.
- The SEA Gas Pipeline runs for 686 km from Port Campbell, Victoria to Pelican Point in Adelaide, South Australia. Starting alongside the Twelve Apostles, it travels through rich farmland, some of Australia’s most famous vineyards and the Adelaide suburbs. It was built by Lucas, in joint venture with Spie Capag, as an engineer/procure/construct project.
- Midwest Pipeline - Completed less than a year after it was conceived, for less than the target price, this 365 km pipeline carries natural gas from Geraldton to the Windimurra region of Western Australia.
- Moomba to Sydney ethane pipeline - this 1,200 km pipeline relied on Lucas HDD to carry it across 15 rivers, wetlands, gorges and the main runway of Sydney Airport.
- Century Zinc - Lucas HDD carries this 300km slurry pipeline across six major rivers on its way from Zinifex’s Century Mine to the port of Karumba. Lucas was also responsible for the hydrostatic testing of the pipeline.
Lucas’ partnership approach to business focuses on our clients’ objectives and sets about achieving them. We get involved in projects earlier and concentrate on adding value, instead of looking for ‘variations’ to pad the profit on a marginal contract.
By eliminating the adversarial element from relationships with our clients, we can work faster and more openly, getting product flowing sooner. In the end, everyone benefits.
We offer everything from engineering through landowner liaison, environmental planning and approvals, procurement, reinstatement, testing and commissioning. Our clients can stick to their core business of carrying and selling their product and leave us to take care of the engineering, construction and operation of their pipelines.
Lucas is a leading member of the Australian Pipeline Industry Association (APIA), which represents the interests of pipeline owners, operators and builders. We take this involvement seriously. We’re also contributors to industry research through several cooperative research centres developing innovative techniques to a commercial level.
Lucas senior management and project managers are well versed in carrying out construction and engineering projects in areas with specific local project sensitivities or impacts on the local environment. Lucas management systems include procedures for:
- Cultural heritage
- Landowner relationships
- Community and stakeholder relations.
